'Santa is Coming' is another Instagram filter created using Facebook's Spark AR Studio especially for Christmas 2019 and beyond. This filter is inspired by photos where Santa Claus is traveling the night skies on his sleigh. In my head, I heard the jingle bell sounds and watching Santa drop gifts to people on the ground. In this case, he drops gifts on top of your head.

That vision made me create this IG camera effect. I wanted to recreate the scene that I've seen in my head into an effect. One that I can share with you and one that you can enjoy using and sharing with other people on Xmas.

So what 'Santa is Coming' filter does? In this filter, after tapping the screen to get started, you'll hear jingle bells and Santa will come riding on his reindeer sleigh into the frame. He will pass your head (I've designed it so it's always above the user's head) and Santa will drop many gifts on your head. Those gifts are 3D objects and the fly straights towards your head. Santa will also greet you with a Merry Christmas with a traditional Santa Claus voice tone.

So super cool, but there is more. Once the presents hit your head, they intersect with it. Those colorful Xmas gift boxes will bump into your head and drop down to the ground. I added some nice physics to it, so you can headbutt the gifts and juggle them on your head if you like to. This uses the same base code I used in the Soccer Head juggling AR game. This is a reuse of part of the code to reimagine some cool ideas for my Christmas Instagram and Facebook filters.

Santa Claus will then continue to pass again and again and drop more and more gifts for you to enjoy bumping your head against. It's a fun AR experience (some people don't like me calling it 'experience'.. so don't tell them) that I enjoy using myself.

I am so excited about making my own AR effects for mobile phones that can be used this Chrismas by many users all around the world who celebrate Christmas 2019. It's even better knowing that my filters can be used on Android and iPhone mobile devices, including tablets, so I don't need to recreate the app for every single platform. That's a big advantage as a developer and this is why I was able to make more than a dozen Instagram filters for Xmas.
