Maiko Cosplay Costume & Makeup — Instagram Filter Review

| Filter name: "Maiko"
Maiko is my second Instagram filter inspired by the traditional maiko Japanese costume. Maiko (舞妓) is an apprentice geisha and it carries a slightly different look than a geisha/geiko that I did in my other filter. This detailed cosplay IG effect was created by me, so I'll share my experience designing it, rather than a straightforward critic review as I do for third-party filter not designed by me.
'Maiko' Instagram filter uses Facebook's Spark AR technology to turn you into maiko. An art performer who its jobs consist of performing songs, dances, and playing different traditional Japanese instruments. Although you won't find any instruments here, you get to see how you look wearing a maiko face makeup, hair ornaments, and two Kimono variations.
For the maiko hair ornaments, I needed to purchase a stock image and use only those flower hair ornament in order to give you a look fo a maiko. I also made some cuts of the hair compared to the original image that I've used for the geisha costume filter.
The Augmented Reality maiko costume consists of a hairpiece, hair accessories and ornaments, face makeup and kimono clothing.
I update the makeup from the original geisha one to make it look one of a maiko. This consists of face paint with an unpainted hairline area, pink blush around the cheeks and eyes, and partially colored red lips. In fact, the lips are colored depends on the rank. Minarai only has its lower lip painted, whether a maiko, a 3rd level apprentice geisha, has its upper and lower lip painted as well. Even so, only part of it is painted, unlike the geisha can have full lips painted.
As I made this 'Maiko' IG camera effect, I learned more about Japanese culture. This is one of the reasons that make me enjoy making Japanese-themed Instagram/Facebook camera effects. I want to be able to learn about Japanese culture while I am here in Japan. I am currently in Osaka but visited Kyoto, Tokyo, Kobe, Himeji, Mount Fuji, Nara, and many other places.
The maiko Kimono is one that I've used from a maiko stock photo that I've purchased, that with the ornament. I used the same hair vector illustration that I used for the geisha filter, but cut it out a bit at the bottom. So overall, subtly changed to the makeup but more prominent changes to the maiko's hairstyle.
If you like the Maiko cosplay costume, I think you'll enjoy the geisha one as well. I've created many more Japan-inspired Instagram filters, so don't forget to check out my other filters to see if there are other filters you'll enjoy using as well.
